Helicopters are the norm not the exception in the Alps.
Despite the mountains being extremely steep here, there are people, animals and buildings everywhere. Although cars and trucks are plentful, helicopters are used on a regular basis. It’s kind of mind-blowing to us to these flying vehicles on a day to day basis, but in the Alps, they are just another tool in the bag of getting things done. Helicopters are used for everything from re-supplying huts and scenic flights to rescues and moving machines and materials.
At Sölden, the resort has been working with Heli Tirol and Heli Austria to aid in the construction of the new bike trails in the Bike Republic. Fortunately, I’ve been able to get a front row seat for the action. It’s been a totally fascinating process and I’m psyched that I’ve been able to capture many aspects of the work.
